VIDEO: Raiders Partner with Kids Museum on Stadium Exhibit
The Raiders continue to set roots in the Las Vegas community this time forging a new relationship with the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum Downtown.
While the Oakland Raiders new stadium is officially under construction off Russell Road and Interstate 15, little hands all over the valley will get to learn more about the project as the team joins the ECO City Gallery at DISCOVERY Children’s Museum for a Kids Construction Zone exhibit.
In a ceremonial “groundbreaking” at the museum today, the winners of the Raiders Kids Construction Zone Drawing Contest participated in the ceremony. Their artwork was presented on a shovel displayed at the event, which including Raiders president Marc Badain. The entire 3rd grade class from Gene Ward Elementary School christened the new exhibit at the event.
“I think you can see from their [kids] reaction behind us, and the interactivity, it’s a big hit,” Badain, the Raiders point-person on the Las Vegas stadium and relocation project. “It’s a phenomenal way to display the project and let kids understand the jobs associated with it and some of the opportunities its going to provide the community.”
According to the museum: “ECO City is an environmentally friendly, kid-sized city filled with familiar buildings and businesses where kids explore how people live and work together in their community. Visitors experience and operate the city as an interconnected system. Throughout ECO City, visitors have multiple opportunities to learn about green living and make choices that they, or their caregivers, make in the real world.”
Carrie Cooper, a member of the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum Board of Trustees, said the museum’s involvement with the Raiders shows how involved both stakeholders are in the community.
“The Raiders have already shown a commitment to our kids and our community that is beyond expectation,” Cooper said. “We’re happy to welcome them to our community and a collaboration like this, to benefit school-aged kids, shows you what kind of community partners the will be now and when they officially arrive.”
It marks the third major community event for the Raiders in Las Vegas in just under the last week. Along with last week’s visit to Ward Elementary, the team hosted its Celebrity Swing fundraiser for Veteran’s Village. Badain said the community can expect to continue to see the Raiders active in the community now and moving forward.
“We’re trying to be on the ground every week,” Badain said.
